Jaundice outbreak: BJP stages walk-out from House

Jaundice outbreak: BJP stages walk-out from HouseOpposition BJP staged a walk-out from the Vidhan Sabha on Friday, protesting against the state government’s ‘insensitive attitude’ and ‘criminal apathy’ over the outbreak of jaundice which has already resulted in a dozen deaths and affected more than 3000 people, including top government bureaucrats, doctors, students and daily wage earners in Shimla. There were intermittent clashes between the Opposition and the ruling party members as the House took up the debate on the issue after the Question Hour on a motion tabled by BJP’s chief whip Suresh Bhardwaj and five other MLAs, including Rajeev Bindal, MLA from Nahan. The MLAs demanded resignation of IPH Minister Vidya Stokes and Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma and asserted that some political heads must roll, in addition to top government officials of the IPH department, Pollution Control Board and Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC).
